Job Summary:

Are you looking to work with a team to commercialize an exciting new fermentation technology? Then you will be interested in LanzaTech’s Senior Development Associate position. The Senior Development Associate is responsible for supporting all phases of fermentation process scale-up and math modelling. This may include customized process development, directing experimental fermentation plans providing scale-up from laboratory and pilot plant data to industrial scale processes, performing detailed design calculations and simulations, identifying opportunities for process optimization, recommending process design changes, and assisting with the implementation and system start-up. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Jointly develop experimental plan with our Fermentation Team to develop models (Kinetic Modeling, Genetic Biology and Fermentation Science experience)
  • Work with Synthetic Biology team to translate their findings into robust reactor models
  • Develop metabolic models to incorporate into overall models of metabolic kinetics and  hydrodynamics for a multi-scale reactor model
  • Evaluate performance of intermediate scale reactors at our operating facilities
  • Work with Engineering to incorporate reactor model into optimized overall flowscheme
  • Assist in troubleshooting commercial operations
  • Interact with others to develop new reactor concepts and other unit operations concepts
  • Participate in development of grant proposals
  • Participate in or lead process safety activities and risk identification and mitigation activities.
  • Develop and share best practices with other teams throughout the company

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD Degree in Chemical, Genetic or Biology Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience in fermentation metabolic engineering modeling; as well as Scale-Up and Mathematical skills required; and able to do Metabolic Flux Analysis
  • Sound technical and analytical skills (basic chemical engineering understandings – gas/liquid transfer)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team player mentality
  • Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Some global travel may be required
  • Must be able to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with metabolic modeling software is preferred
  • Fermentation experimentation experience
  • Subject Matter Expertise (SME) and/or design experience in any of the following areas related to feed gas production technologies is desired: gas handling, compression, filtration, distillation, fermentation, or feasibility studies
